Programs

Though Sea2Shore was only founded in 2008, the organization has already obtained a stellar reputation for excellence and we have an impressive list of on-going projects. Our work covers primarily three Marine Wildlife species, and falls into multiple program areas:

Manatee Research and Conservation

Sea Turtle Research and Conservation

Right Whale Research and Conservation

Future Projects

As funding and opportunties become available, Sea2Shore has numerous other projects that we are eager to pursue:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of slower boat speed zones to reduce injuries and threats to manatees
  • Assesing sea turtle interactions in Florida fisheries
  • Testing alternative boat propulsion systems that could reduce injuries to manatees
  • Investigating how reduction of natural and artificial warm water sanctuaries may affect the survival of manatees
  • Studying how manatee grazing on seagrasses affects growth and other species
  • Increasing awareness about the disappearance of Florida springs and the impact on the aquatic ecosystems and species, such as manatees
  • Understanding the effects of increased vessel traffic due to expanded offshore drilling on endangered species such as manatees and right whales
  • Developing satellite linked devices to detect illegal trawling in international waters
  • Educating children through close, in-water encounters with manatees to increase awareness about aquatic environmental threats
  • Assessing and educating public about the degradation of seagrass meadows by boat propellers and the impact on the aquatic environment
  • Investigating the impact of global climate change on the future distribution and status of manatees in the US
