Sea2Shore is currently working with the Florida Power and Light Corporation (FPL) to help ensure that temporary heating units installed at the Riviera Power Plant while the plant is shutdown provide adequate warmth for manatees during cold weather. During the first two weeks of January and again for a week in February, Sea2Shore staff were on site daily to observe and monitor manatees in the discharge area, to conduct behavioral observations of wild manatees, to assess pre-indicators of cold stress, and to assist with multiple manatee rescues.
