Sea to Shore Alliance's Dr. James "Buddy" Powell at think + drink (science) cafe
Join the South Florida Museum for a fun, fascinating, and raucous evening as it hosts world-renowned manatee expert Dr. James “Buddy” Powell for a think + drink (science) café from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 14. The think + drink (science) café, held in the Bishop Planetarium Lobby, is free and open to all ages.
Dr. Powell is the executive director of Sea to Shore Alliance, a Florida-based not-for-profit dedicated to conserving our coastal environments for the endangered species and human livelihoods that depend on them. Dr. Powell has spent nearly 40 years working with manatees in West Africa, Florida, Cuba, and Belize. He will share his insights and personal stories about manatee conservation here in Florida and abroad as well as the cultural relationships between manatees and mermaids. The South Florida Museum’s think + drink (science) café takes place on the second Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. It’s an event where you can lounge on a couch, grab a beer or a glass of wine (or a soft drink) and learn about cutting-edge science in a relaxed, informal setting. Typically the "expert du jour" gives a short presentation on the topic of the month, and then opens the floor for questions and discussion. Drinks and bar snacks are available for purchase but guests may also bring their own food.
